Pelvic floor dysfunction: symptoms & treatment
Causes, symptoms and treatment options: what you should know about pelvic floor dysfunction, and why acting early makes the difference.
What is pelvic floor dysfunction?
Pelvic floor dysfunction occurs when the muscles of the pelvic floor do not work properly. These muscles support the bladder, uterus and rectum. When they become too weak, too tense or uncoordinated, a wide range of symptoms follows — from incontinence through to pain.

When to seek help
If you notice symptoms, do not wait. Early intervention leads to better outcomes. In Germany, pelvic floor physiotherapy prescribed by a doctor is generally covered by health insurance; that does not automatically extend to courses and training, so check with your insurer if you are unsure.
